Empowering Aspiring Leaders

Driven By Us' supports underrepresented groups in the automotive, motorsport & F1 industries with the mission to empower aspiring leaders through a safe and supportive community network and club in motorsports and creating a visible generational impact worldwide by actively engaging the community and influencing perceptions in the industry.


On November 20th, some of our STEAM Team took part in their 'Accelerating Inclusion' event at ... in London. In partnership with the Rio Ferdinand Foundation, the attendees took part in 5, 45 minute sessions with a eclectic range of different activities from F1 design & sustainability, Career Pathways, Karting and our own session of coding & robotics.

Robotics & Coding Activities

The day was kickstarted with an introduction from Stephanie Wentworth, a motorsports presenter who previously worked on Sky Sports & BT sport. She spoke about the importance of events like these and how they inspire change and progression, and shared her excitement for working with Driven By Us & The Rio Ferdinand Foundation.

Following this each group of 10 students, aged 13-18, split off and took part in each of the 5 sessions throughout the day. 

Our workshop was centered around building a vehicle out of LEGO Education SPIKE Prime sets and coding it to complete the obstacle course. Each group had students with an vast array of ability within coding, building & programming which only added to the excitement of the day. Students were able to problem solve, collaborate & innovated their designs and code to continually edge closer to the completion of the course. The beauty of the coding & robotics activities is there isn't a single correct answer or way to do things which really encourages students to trust their gut and not be afraid to fail. This in turn really allows creativity to be expressed and shine through as a key factor in development not only within the workshop itself but to use these transferrable skills throughout their education and into their future careers.

Why Edutainment?

Edutainment is playful, explorative, open-to-anyone, hands-on, experience-based learning. No former experience is required, anyone can take part, it’s “Go, explore and play”.

The research is clear: Playful pedagogy supports social-emotional and academic strengths while instilling a love of learning. Studies show that children explore more than adults if they are given the opportunity, and exploring has strong benefits for their learning.

Therefore, giving children, teenagers and adults the opportunity to explore and play, is a great learning tool, especially in an informal educational setting. It breaks down the boundaries and takes away the reservations some children/young people (and adults) might have in a traditional educational environment.

Edutainment creates a playful space to try, gives room to make mistakes, to try again and to observe that one problem can have several solutions - not just one right answer. Giving room to try means giving space to find your talents.
As said, Edutainment is open to anyone: “Go, explore, play!”, and a lot of active learning along the way.
